Why This Work Matters

I reflect back to a photo where I was sitting on the stoop of my grandparent’s house in 1997 with my brother and my cousins. This is the story of my grandparent’s house. They bought it back in 1953 utilizing the GI Bill as my grandfather is a veteran of World War II where he fought in the Pacific. It was a modest home that raised my mom and her three sisters, that looks like the last time my grandparents updated the house was back in the 1970s – I mean they had thick, shag carpet in the living room up until the house was sold in 2021. The home was a gathering place where traditions and values were established. The home was filled with love, joy and laughter that I can’t imagine that could be accomplished if my grandparents were perpetual renters. I also remember my grandfather saying how he was out of work for a year in 1970, but it did not effect the home where they paid it off in 1983 and my grandfather was able to live there until 2021 at the age of 95 when his health prohibited him to live independently. That is what I hoping the families that we serve is able to enjoy and why this work matters to me.

Fun Fact

I lived in Mexico for almost two years. I have run four marathons, which includes twice in Boston and threw out the first pitch at a Phillies game (Thank you Citizens!).
