Habitat for Humanity Home Dedication Ceremony

On June 13th, we had the pleasure of joining Habitat for Humanity at the Home Dedication Ceremony for five AHCOPA clients! We provided housing counseling for these homeowners as a part of Habitat for Humanity’s Homeownership Program. Habitat for Humanity will be building more homes nestled just a few blocks away from Fairmount Park! Learn how you can be one of those future homeowners.

Congratulations to Adrienne D., Angie G., Barbara & Dev’Ron, Danielle P., and Marcia R. on achieving their dream of homeownership! These new homeowners worked hard to purchase their homes in the Coltrane Commons. The Habitat for Humanity team and volunteers, partner organizations, and elected officials gathered for the Home Dedication Ceremony to celebrate their grand accomplishment! Some of the new homeowners shared a bit of their journey before they cut the ribbon to their new home. Daniella P., mother of two, said

“This feeling is unreal for me. I learned about Habitat, say 5 years ago. My sister told me about it, she was joining and I didn’t think I could do it. So I didn’t join. And then I watched her get her house and I knew it was possible… I didn’t qualify the first time and I gave up. She told me ‘Danielle just do it again. Just try. What do you have to lose?’. I did it and now here I am!”

Habitat for Humanity’s Homeownership Program is robust and has an in-depth approach in supporting those looking for affordable housing. Collectively, the five new homeowners completed over fourteen workshops in preparation for homeownership. In turn, they have earned over $50,000 in home-buying grants. They also saved over $20,000 toward their homes and those savings were matched with $12,000 via Individual Development Accounts. Each homeowner completed 125 hours of volunteer work, aka they built “Sweat Equity”, some even took part in volunteering to help build their own home!

Habitat for Humanity is building housing and bulldozing barriers to traditional homeownership by providing an incredibly affordable mortgage product and you may qualify! There are minimum and maximum income requirements and you must have an adequate need for affordable housing. Families requiring ADA accessibility or with members with special needs are highly encouraged to apply to the Habitat for Humanity Homeownership program. Homeownership Applications Open Soon!
